In view of better traffic management, Mumbai traffic police have imposed restrictions on heavy vehicles running on roads during peak hours, that is, from 7 to 11 am and from 5 to 9 pm.
The notification comes with exception of heavy vehicles providing essential services like vegetables, milk, ambulance, police vans, firefighting apparatus, government/semi government heavy vehicles and lastly all buses transporting passengers. All of these can run on roads during peak hours.
The regional traffic police of Mumbai have taken the step due to increase of number of vehicles plying on the road, ongoing repair works on road, ongoing metro/mono rail projects and electricity/telephone line installment works across the city. In Mumbai, heavy vehicles especially during peak hours leads or add much of it to traffic snarls causing high inconvenience to motorists.
