Sunday morning witnessed a fire break out in the Library of Sydenham Institute of Management Studies, Research and Entrepreneurship Education (SIMSREE) located at Churchgate.
The tragic event has led to destruction of books, wooden furniture and computers placed at the third floor of the college building. Though, specific reason for emerging of fire hasn’t been concluded; the short circuit is still believed to have caused the fire. Four fire tenders and seven water tankers were rushed to the spot.
College officials have told HT that the entire floor is currently chained and the total damage has not been assessed yet. The students are on the Christmas break but as soon as the classes begin on January 2, new classrooms will have to be availed for teaching.
Official said that the restoration work will take time.
As quoted in DNA, an official from the Fire department said, “We received a call at 5.21 am and the blaze was doused by 7.30 am. As it was a holiday, crowd management wasn’t a problem.”
